I used to think self love was such a corny concept. A soft little reminder I needed to give myself whenever my harsh self talk was getting out of control. But it was never really something I internalized. It always seemed like a ‘nice to have’ rather than an end goal.
It was not until I realized how damaging my thoughts were getting and how my lack of self compassion was chipping away at my self esteem that I took a second look.
It seems so obvious, but we often forget that the most crucial relationship we will have in this life is the one we have with ourselves.
Self love is something we cultivate over time but doesn’t come easy. Growing up in a comparison culture we learned at an early age to go inward and blame ourselves for so many things. We’ve became so used to casting shadows inward that changing this habit takes time to unravel.
So, when you find yourself drumming up thoughts of past weaknesses or failures - interrupt them by acknowledging those strengths and hard won successes you’ve accomplished with pride and gratitude. Make this a practice and your perspective on what you can create in life will shift in powerful ways.
Life is about growth and striving to be the best you can be every day. So, make the commitment to cultivate a genuine sense of appreciation, compassion, and acceptance toward yourself and never waiver when it comes to having your own back.
Then sit back and watch the magic happen.
